ENERGY DAY SPA -

MALAYSIAN HOMEGROWN SPA
WINS ASIA PACIFIC AWARD

Singapore Friday 5 November 2004

O
n Friday 5th November at the 2004 SPAASIA CRYSTAL AWARD ceremony in Singapore, Malaysia homegrown Energy Day Spa did Malaysia proud when it won over some of the top names in Asian spas to receive the SpaAsia Crystal Award for BEST DAY SPA”

Energy Day Spa’s Managing Director and owner, DATIN RAMONA SULEIMAN was in Singapore last night to receive the award.  The two year old spa which opened in January 2003 at the Great Eastern Mall in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, is already well known among spa enthusiasts in the region.  A delighted Datin Ramona said, I am extremely happy to make Malaysia proud by winning this award with a 100% homegrown product.  Energy Day Spa is conceptualized, styled, designed, managed and built by Malaysians, using Malaysian materials and with no foreign inputs.  Energy is a Malaysian spa.”

Energy Day Spa also received nomination in the category of Best Day Spa (Design).  It was the only Malaysian spa nominated in this category.

Energy Day Spa has recently tied up with Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre to offer customized therapeutic spa services in-house at the medical centre, making it the first and only spa in Malaysia to provide such services.  A new branch of Energy Day Spa is due to open in January 2005 at the upscale enclave of Mont’ Kiara, a popular choice for residence with expatriates in Kuala Lumpur.

“The spa industry in Malaysia is in its infancy compared to our neighbors Thailand and Bali, two popular spa destinations.  Malaysia has the potential to make it as a spa destination.  With the right support from the Government, the spa industry will be an added attraction for tourism in the country and will be a major foreign revenue earner.  We are a safe country, with warm caring people and many natural resources to tap from.  It will be a shame not to build on these potentials.  But we must be innovative and creative, and have the confidence to build our own brand of spas. she adds.

According to Datin Ramona, a Malaysian Spa Association is in formation.  “With a spa association, the members will have a platform from which to work with each other and the Government, to regulate, enhance, develop and look into the numerous challenges facing this new but growing industry.”  said Datin Ramona. With the right support, we will fly!”

SpaAsia is the premier spa and wellness magazine in Asia Pacific.  For its inaugural Crystal Award, the nomination was based on the results of the past 6 months’ open poll from readers of SpaAsia magazine and customers’ feedback.  The results were then submitted through the judging procedures and the open poll was audited by PriceWaterHouseCoopers.
